Artists Statement
A primary goal of my landscape painting is to bring to the viewer’s awareness the magnificent surroundings we all share and must protect. I have worked passionately to preserve our natural resources and to document our beautiful, fragile planet in my paintings.  Currently, I am working on several series, one of which features landscapes and cityscapes of North Carolina.  These works include marshes, lakes, streams, vineyards, old barns, wet city streets, and anything else that really captures my attention.  I do both plein air paintings of the landscapes and larger studio paintings in which I work to recapitulate the sensory qualities I experience when painting on site.  My fog series attempts to evoke those transient, magical mornings when heavy fog can transform the most mundane lake or stream into an otherworldly place and time.  My traveling still life series attempts to capture those wonderful anticipatory moments when we are planning our next travels to some far-away place.
